Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal clinched a dramatic victory at the US$700,000 Omega Hong Kong Open 2001 after producing a triple birdie finish on Hong Kong Golf Club's Composite Course on December 2. <br/> <br/>

The tenacious Olazabal, a two-time US Masters champion, never held the lead during a gripping final round, only hitting the winning shot on the 18th with a stunning five iron approach that landed inches from the pin for birdie.The Omega Hong Kong Open, the season-ending event in Asia, was jointly sanctioned with the Asian PGA Tour. Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee claimed the Davidoff Tour Order of Merit crown ahead of Charlie Wi of Korea after finishing tied for 13th.
