Dean Barker victorious at the third OMEGA Regatta in Portugal

In its third edition, Lisbon's OMEGA Regatta once again proved to be among the top yachting competitions in the Portuguese capital. With a record 72 yachts enrolled, the event enjoyed superb weather conditions and ideal winds, which ensured huge crowds.

The regatta was preceded on Friday by a press conference with Team New Zealand's America's Cup skipper Dean Barker, visiting Europe for the first time since Swiss team Alinghi won the America's Cup in his home country of New Zealand in March. Barker fielded questions from the press, who were eager to get the skipper's views on the America's Cup – one of the burning questions being whether Caiscais would be the venue of the next America's Cup.

Dean Barker, an ambassador for OMEGA's Seamaster watch collection, also launched the new Seamaster Aqua Terra collection in Portugal. The Aqua Terra combines the traditional Seamaster values of reliability, robustness and high water resistance with an elegant new design and the revolutionary OMEGA Co-Axial Escapement.

The Friday evening saw Barker attend a Gala Dinner in the presence of VIP guests from the world of business and sailing in Portugal, including Olympic sailor Diego Cayolla and OMEGA's Portuguese spokesperson, TV presenter Liliana Campos.

Prior to the regatta on the Saturday, Barker hosted a skippers' workshop during which he shared his insight into the world of match race sailing. His communications skills were highly appreciated by all the budding skippers present.

The OMEGA regatta took place on the Tejo river in ideal conditions. Under glorious sunshine, and with perfect winds, Dean Barker emerged victorious in his first competition following the America's Cup 2003, leading the OMEGA yacht to victory.
