OMEGA, main sponsor of the 2003 Oberer Tennis Camp, invites Martina Hingis to conduct special clinic.

Prestige watch manufacturer OMEGA is delighted to be the prime sponsor of the 2003 Oberer Tennis Camp. This year, the famous camp is celebrating ten years since it was founded by Stéphane Oberer as an institution to provide coaching for young tennis players from all over the world. Since 1993, over 3000 youngsters from all backgrounds have benefited from top quality coaching using first-class facilities. The Oberer philosophy does not focus on producing pros, but rather seeks to encourage those with a geunuine passion for the sport to reach their full potential. Such is its success that every year numerous devotees return to improve their game and meet old and new friends.

Ten years have passed since the opening of the Oberer Tennis Camp and in the last decade Swiss tennis has produced some outstanding success stories which serve to inspire the new generation of sporting talent. 1992 was a year that will forever be etched on the memories of tennis fans: a mere four months after bringing home a gold medal from the Barcelona Olympic Games, Marc Rosset succeeded in reaching the final of the Davis Cup with his doubles partner, Jakob Hlasek. Meanwhile, a young Federer was swiftly moving up the ranks: in 1998, he was placed 302nd in the ATP ratings, but only 12 months later, he had soared to 64th place. His career boasts a consistent series of phenomenal victories which culminated this year when he claimed the Men's Singles Trophy at The All England Club, Wimbledon.

OMEGA was delighted to invite unique tennis talent Martina Hingis to lead a special clinic at the 2003 Oberer Tennis Camp. Martina is a true inspiration for those who are passionate about the game. At the age of twelve, she won the junior tournament at Roland-Garros and it was at this point that "Hingismania" began. In a sparkling career she has amassed a wealth of world-class titles, including the 1997 triumph when she broke the record books as the youngest ever number one player.

The day began with Stéphane Oberer welcoming Martina to the event and then the children had the opportunity to ask her a series of questions about her tennis career and her hobbies off court. Then followed a tennis clinic in which the children were able to demonstrate their ball skills to the former world number one. In the afternoon, journalists conducted a series of one-to-one interviews with Martina, before another special tennis clinic in which a different group of children experienced the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rally with the tennis champion. Spectators were then treated to an exhibition match played by Martina and one of the club's coaches. Martina finished the day by signing autographs for her delighted young fans.

OMEGA is strongly committed to promoting sport at all levels and particularly seeks to nurture young sporting talent. As the main sponsor of the event, the brand is confident that Martina's sheer enthusiasm for the game and outstanding natural talent no doubt served to inspire and encourage those who attended the special clinic led by the tennis star.
