Alexander Popov wins triple gold in Barcelona

OMEGA, official timekeeper of the world swimming championships in Barcelona, congratulates its brand ambassador Alexander Popov on his three world championship gold medals.

Alexander Popov has regained his title as the fastest man in swimming. With the OMEGA timing display indicating a time of 48.42, Popov convincingly beat in form rivals Pieter van den Hoogenband and fellow OMEGA ambassador Ian Thorpe in the 100m freestyle. Having also won the 4x100m freestyle gold with the Russian team, he went on to take his third gold in the 50m. Alexander Popov, who recently moved to Switzerland to prepare for the 2004 Athens Olympics, has once again affirmed himself as one of the greatest freestyle swimmers of all time with this outstanding achievement.
