As well as beautifully measuring every moment on Earth; this collection follows the phases of the moon, which makes perfect sense given that the Speedmaster was the first watch ever to be worn on the lunar surface. As a Master Chronometer, the Moonphase celebrates another pioneering moment: OMEGA's exacting new standard of testing set by METAS.
The bold use of colour gives each Moonphase its distinctive look. Along with a diverse range of dials and ceramic bezels, there are also plenty of attractive material choices for the cases, including stainless steel, 18K yellow gold, 18K Sedna™ gold or platinum. Finally, the twin two-handed subdials give each watch a beautifully symmetrical look.
"…Liquidmetal™ has been used on the tachymeter scale for some models, which is another Speedmaster first…"
A brief astronomy lesson: a lunar month is not 30 days, but slightly more than 29.5 days. A difficult time-span to manage for a standard gear train, but OMEGA's Moonphase is up to the task. Its highly accurate mechanism only needs adjusting after 10 years, and all it takes is a few turns of the crown.
"On most models, a close-up view of the Moonphase disc reveals the iconic footprint left by Neil Armstrong."
On stainless steel models, the image of the moon is as detailed as a NASA photograph. This has been obtained by a special microstructuring technique on a metallic crystal disc. Look closer and you can even see an added astronaut’s footprint.
The revolutionary new 9904 and 9905 movements are made up of 368 components and mark the start of a whole new era in watchmaking: the Co-Axial Master Chronometer has landed.

The watches include a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder at 3 o’clock, as well as a date dial and small seconds hand at 9 o’clock. The captivating Moonphase indication sits at 6 o’clock. The hands and indexes are coated in Super-LumiNova for extra brightness in dark conditions.
